Date Listed: Jul-20-08 Andy Tsinnanjinnie (also spelled Tsihanajinnie and Tsinajinnie and Tsinajinie) An original Navajo painting by Andy Tsinajinie. This painting is framed and measures 26" x 38" . It is of a card game and is often titled the gamblers. There are 22 figures of people and 5 animals and three separate games going on - Monument Mountains in background. All the people are dressed in traditional Navajo clothing. The painting is done in acrylics and is on a black background. The painting is signed and dated 1994 - Painted after surgery and serious health problems - Andy's colors became far more bright and vivid than what was seen prior to health crisis. Signed with his first name (very unusal). Andy was struck with serious illness in early 1970's and died in 2000. An internet search "Andy Tsinnanjinnie" will lead one to art museums worldwide as well as many prominent institutions throughout the United States. Born in Chinle, Navajo Reservation, Arizona in 1916, later to serve as a "code talker" for the U.S. Army in the South Pacific World War II before moving his studio to Scottsdale.
